Valerie Carr

With heavy hearts, we remember Valerie Elaine Carr, 61, who departed this life on November 20, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 5, 1963, Valerie was the beloved daughter of Shirley Waller and Nathaniel McGhee.

Known for her unwavering kindness, grace, and compassion, Valerie left an indelible mark on her family and friends. She was fully present and active in her community, where she was known for her warm smile, open heart, and calm demeanor. She was generous with her time and talents; her presence was a source of light and inspiration. Valerie's reputation for treating everyone with dignity and respect garnered her the admiration of all who knew her. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Valerie was preceded in death by her mother and father and her maternal grandparents, Ocie and Major Bluford, who were instrumental in her nurturing and upbringing and with whom she shared a special bond. She is survived by her husband, Eric Carr; her children, Stacy Reed (Tiffany), Lamario Reed (Jajuanna), and Cortney Taylor (Fontaine); her bonus children, Carlos Wright (Valarie), Eric Wright, Erica Wright, Claudia Wright, Shunea Wright, Alise Wright, and Steven Liggins; 23 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Tina Bluford and Felicia McGhee; brother Andre Mcghee; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends.

Valerie's legacy is one of love and service. Because of her creativity and vast knowledge and skills, she was often called upon to serve in vital roles and lead special tasks and projects. She was a loyal and faithful member of Morning Star Baptist Church, where she was president of the usher board, served on the finance committee, and recently chaired a facilities revitalization effort. She was a longstanding member of the Improved Benevolent Protected Order of Elks of the World (IBPOEW), serving in many local and state capacities, including Daughter Ruler of Derrick City Temple #352, Grand Daughter Ruler Council member, and state Financial Secretary. She was also a prominent founding member of the El Dorado Pride and Progress Club, where she held key positions, including secretary and treasurer.

Valerie was a proud graduate of the El Dorado High School Class of 1981. Her classmates remember her as a scholar-athlete throughout her primary and secondary years. In addition to serving in student government, she was an honor roll student who excelled in cheerleading, basketball, softball, and track and field.

The world is a better place because Valerie Elaine Carr lived. Her family and friends will forever cherish her memory and strive to honor her by carrying forward her amazing spirit of kindness, service, and love.
