Tressie Smart

June 25, 1951 — February 24, 2020

Sister Tressie was born June 25, 1951, to the late Dan and Pankie Thurman in El Dorado, Arkansas. She was the fifth of seven siblings. She attended Washington High School and furthered her Education at the oil Belt Vo-Tech where she received her CNA license.

Tressie accepted the Lord as her savior at a very early age. She united with Plum Street COGIC, later she became a member of Wesson Street COGIC, where she was a faithful and dedicated worker under the leadership of Superintendent Lennie Clemons. Later she united with Morning Star Baptist church No. 2 under the leadership of Reverend Felton Burgie, where she was a faithful member until God called her home on February 24, 2020.

Tressie gave her hand in marriage to the late Thomas Smart on June 15, 1971, to this union, they were blessed with two sons and later she was blessed with a beautiful baby girl. She had the pleasure of nurturing many.

As a woman, she was known for her compassion, tough, and unconditional love, not only to her children, grandchildren, and family but to all she met. She took great pride in raising her children by doing as God’s holy word said to train up a child in the fear of God without sparing the rod.

She will always be remembered as a mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend, her greatest gift was helping others.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers; Brady Thurman, George Thurman, Richard Thurman, and Carlton Thurman. One sister; Cleaster Davis, and one nephew, George Tony Thurman Jr.

Her loving memories will be cherished by her daughter Autra (Baby Girl) Malcom of Little Rock, AR, two sons, Charles (Brenda R.) Smart of Grand Prairie, Tx., Roderick (Rod D)(Andrea) Smart of Little Rock, AR, one sister, Deborah Thurman (Donnell) of El Dorado, AR, five Grandchildren, Samaje Daugherty, Marquez Smart, Braylon Smart, Jermaine Penny, Brylon Smart, and Kaylegih Smart. Two special nephews, Darin Thurman, and James George, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Special friends, Mother Mary Alice Frazier, Marie Lewis, Linder Clemons- Boyce, and her friend to the end Lady Delores Hayes.

Public Visitation Friday, March 6, 2020, at Sims Mortuary from 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., Funeral service Saturday, March 7, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church #2, Interment at Rest Haven Cemetery under the direction of Sims Mortuary. Sign the guestbook at simsmortuary.com
