Mae Evelyn Sherman was born October 3, 1945, in Randolph, LA, to the late Will C. Carter and Lillie P. Henry. Evelyn lived most of her life in El Dorado, AR, with her devoted husband of 57-years, Otis Sherman. Through their union, they were blessed with three children: Darrell, Gereron, and Zondra.
After graduating in 1963 from Rosenwald HS in Junction City, Ark., Mae Evelyn attended Grambling State University in Grambling, LA.
She continued furthering her education at Southern Arkansas University, El Dorado Branch. Her love of children and education led her to many years of service in El Dorado School District, where she retired.
Mae Evelyn faithfully served and believed in her Lord and Savior for all things. She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Randolph, La, and was a dedicated servant in Evergreen Baptist Church's food ministry, where over her more than 50-years of membership, she fed and attended many pastors, clergy, and community members. Baking cakes, pies, and cookies was a favorite hobby of hers.
She loved planting flowers and tending to her flowerbeds. She was a gifted gardener whose green thumb yielded the most beautiful gardens filled with roses, marigolds, daisies, and ivies.
Those who knew her will always remember her caring and humble heart. She always put others first and would assist anyone in need. She never wanted people to worry, and her hope was for others to enjoy life to the fullest. Mae Evelyn was not moved by materialistic things but simply by her love of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
