Latray Burnell

On March 31, 1996, Latray Dontel Burnell became the second-born child of Lee Richard Burnell and Kameka L. Smith. At age 9, his biological parents passed away, and he and his brothers were immediately taken in by Rodriquez and Shunta (Smith) Candley. Their adoption into the Candley family became official in 2007.

Latray was a member of Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a musician. He was taught to play the guitar and drums by Bro. David Davis and Bro. Marda Candley. Latray is a 2014 graduate of El Dorado High School. He obtained his associate degree in Welding Technology in 2015. He worked at Wal-Mart, Domino's, and as a manager at McDonald's. He also worked with his family at Smack Yo' Mama and Candley's Cookin'. Lastly, he drove trucks for CR England Trucking Company.

Latray was affectionately known as "Debo" by his loved ones. He had a very calm demeanor. Latray would encourage everyone around him. He had a genuine love for his family, music, and football. After moving, he continued to play the drums for a local church in Lufkin, TX. Latray loved helping wherever he was needed. He also loved to sing. He and his dad would mess up a song like nobody else. Latray loved being an uncle and would take time with the kids when he could. He enjoyed working on cars, often leaving them much worse than they originally were.

On Saturday, October 5, 2024, Latray transitioned to his new home. He is preceded in death by his biological parents and his grandparents, Shelton Smith Jr. and Ann Christopher.

His memories will forever be cherished by his parents, Rodriquez and Shunta (Smith) Candley; grandmothers, Dorothy Burnell, Sharon Smith, Joy "Joyce" Candley; great-grandmothers, Mattie Christopher and Pearlie Candley; siblings, Larichard Burnell, Jalen Burnell, Kentravious Moore, Kei'Asia Moore, Zy'Kerriah Candley, Zakarriah Candley; a special cousin and best friend, Marday Candley; several uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and an abundance of friends.
