Georgia A. Blackmon departed this life on January 27, 2025, at the Care Center on Hazeltine in Van Nuys, California. She was a resident since September 11, 2023. She was born on February 6, 1940, in Urbana, Arkansas, to her late parents, Verdie B. Lee and Arnice K. Lee. Georgia was also preceded in death by her late husband, Earl Blackmon, her daughter, Earlanette Blackmon, and her sister, Emma R. Henry.
She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of the Mount Zion #2 Missionary Baptist Church in Urbana, Arkansas until her health began to decline.
Georgia was a graduate of Gardner High School in 1957. She received her associate's degree in cosmetology and her bachelor of arts degree from Philander Smith College. Mrs. Marjorie O'Guinn of Strong, Arkansas, began her teaching career with Georgia's class in 1957. Marjorie and Georgia remained close friends until Georgia's demise. Mrs. Ethel Campbell of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Georgia were best friends since they were roommates at Philander. Georgia educated many students in her 27-year career with the Strong-Huttig Public Schools, and her students knew she genuinely cared about them. Her daughter Connie was in her class in the fifth grade, and she wasn't afraid to use that "paddle" or "... put wood on your backside," as Georgia would often say.
She relocated to California at the end of April 2020 to be closer to her family. When Connie could no longer care for her mom safely at home, Georgia went to various Assisted Living Facilities. Then, she went to the Care Center on Hazeltine, and Connie and her mom became a part of their loving family. The Care Center Staff provided Georgia with excellent care until her death. They also provided plenty of support for Connie and her family. Connie could visit her mom every Sunday and any other time she wanted to, without restriction.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: her daughter Connie Y. Holman (Bill Jr.), Santa Clarita, California; her grandson Bill Holman III, Mojave, California; her granddaughter Melissa D. Holman, North Hills, California; her six great-grandchildren: Devion J. Stinson, Amari R. Holman, Ayden P. Holman, Brooklyn I. Holman, Malayah I. Torres, and Bryson Patterson; one aunt Betty Rawls, Pontiac, Michigan; three nieces: Debra Awardo, Dallas, Texas; Sheila McDavid (Lawrence) and Gwen Nettles, Memphis, Tennessee, and a host of other relatives and friends.
