Gary Bernard Shelton, born on February 22, 1968, to Harvey and Kally Shelton, passed away on October 21, 2024. A cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, Gary’s warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. From an early age, Gary accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, which guided him throughout his life. He graduated from Strong High School, Class of 1986, where he formed lasting friendships that he treasured deeply. With a zest for life, Gary passionately pursued his interests in renovating and trading cars, attending trail rides and car shows, and enjoying meals surrounded by family and friends. His eagerness to stay busy and share joy made every moment spent with him meaningful, and he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Growing up, Gary developed a fascination with cars, often spending hours tinkering under the hood of any vehicle he could find. This passion blossomed into a career in towing and roadside assistance, where he became the go-to guy for anyone in need on the road. His trusty tow truck, always gleaming with pride, was a familiar sight across the county, symbolizing his dedication to helping others.
When he wasn’t working, Gary could often be found at car shows, in junkyards, or in his garage restoring classic cars. Known for his love of vintage vehicles, especially his prized 1995 Fleetwood Cadillac, he took meticulous care in every restoration project. Friends and family recall the joy he found in sharing stories about each car, reflecting his passion and expertise. Gary Bernard Shelton’s legacy extends beyond the cars he restored or the lives he touched through his work; it lives on in the love and warmth he brought to everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Kally Shelton, and four brothers: Parnell, Ronald,Robert, and Danny Shelton.
Gary is survived by his wife, April, with whom he shared nine years of holy matrimony. He also leaves behind his daughter, Sanequa Miller Thompson (William), and son, JaMarquis Miller (CeKeale). Through his marriage to April, he embraced five bonus children: daughters Raven Stephens, Jasmine (Dayon) Golden, and Ja’Nijha Wafers, and sons Draylon Girtman and Harold Stephens, mother-in-law Eloise Graham. He is also survived by ten cherished grandchildren, one sister, Lawanda Shelton Hicks (Johnny), and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Gary’s love and spirit will always be remembered by everyone who knew him. Draylon, in particular, was a great source of motivation for Gary, offering strong support and encouragement that helped him get through his illness.
