Dorothy Holley

December 5, 1938 — October 22, 2018

Dorothy Holley was born December 5, 1938 in Lapile, AR to Frances Louise Simmons and Parnell McElroy.

Dorothy attended school in Huttig and in Marion, LA.  She graduated valedictorian from Marion Industrial High School in 1956.  She finished Smith Business School and worked for FHA for a number of years.  She then was employed by the Social Security Administration for 30 years until her retirement in 1999.

On September 18, 1956, she married the love of her life, Jefferson Davis Holley, Jr., (Bubba); they were married for 62 years until her passing.

She joined First Baptist Church in Huttig at the age of 7 and remained a faithful and active member for 70 years.  She served as Sunday School Secretary and teacher.  She was Mission President, Church clerk, Youth Director, VBS Coordinator and Deaconess.  She prepared Sunday bulletins for many years.  She conducted summer programs for youths where she arranged tutoring sessions and taught cooking and sewing, as well as going of church trips, including the Clinton Library.

Recently united with First Baptist Church in Felenthal, AR, where she was joyfully welcomed in the fold and remained until her death.

She was active in her community; she served as a Cub Scout den mother, 4-H Club leader and a Home Demonstration Leader.  She was a member of Concerned Citizens of Huttig.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her stepfather, Emmett Reynolds; two brothers, John L Reynolds and Alonzo V. Reynolds.

She leaves to cherish wonderful memories her husband, Jefferson “Bubba” Davis, Holley, Jr.; her son, Parnell Holley (Judy) of El Dorado, AR; her Godson, Jasmond Benton of Arkadelphia, AR; one brother; Clinton Reynolds (Iris) of Orlando, FL; three sisters, Sandra Dickerson and Sharon Peterson (Bobby) of El Dorado, AR; and Linda Dianne Benton (Jasper) of Arkadelphia, AR; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Public visitation will be Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 12 noon until 4 p.m. at Sims Mortuary. The family hour will be from 6-7pm on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Huttig. Funeral service will be on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Huttig. Interment will be at Marion Baptist Church Cemetery in Marion, LA under the direction of Sims Mortuary.  Sign the guestbook online at www.simsmortuary.com

Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews. Active pallbearers will be Zachary Smedley, Ken Young, Desi Roach, Larry Lumsey, Jerry Williams, Floyd Willis, Gary McHenry and Mark Hall.
