Sylvia Henderson McDaniel was born to the union of John Henry and Florence Williams Henderson on January 29, 1925 in Vian, Oklahoma. She was raised from the age of four years old in Union County, Free Union Community, where she received her early childhood and high school education. At a very early age she united with Free union A.M.E. Church where she served until her health failed. She had great passion for the Sunday School and the Women's Missionary Society, she was a member of the 12th Episcopal District. She also served as the Area IV chairperson for the Young People Department. She was also a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Regional AIDS Interfaith Network, The Silver Haired Legislature of Arkansas, the Court Appointed Special Advocates. The Literacy Council and the Self Culture Club. In 1995 she was selected as one of the Five Who Care for her volunteer work. On September 28, 1925, she married her childhood sweetheart and to this union six children were born. Her parents, six brothers, Jasper, Kermit, John Henry, Ambrose, Herbert, Sam and Childs Henderson; one sister, Roxy Kilgore and a son, Bruce Alan McDaniel all precede her in death. She departed this life on Monday, February 12, 2007 from the Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado, Arkansas. Her memories shall be cherished by her loyal and devoted husband of sixty-six years; Frank McDaniel, Sr. of El Dorado, Arkansas; three sons, Clarence McDaniel(Shirley) of El Dorado, Arkansas, Frank McDaniel, Jr. (Judy Ann) of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Kermit McDaniel of Little Rock, Arkansas, two daughters, Willie Mae Pickett(Arthur) of Bossier City, louisiana and Patricia Hawkins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one godson, Chester Ford(JoAnn) of El Dorado, Arkansas; one brother-in-law, Charles McDaniel(Ellie) of Inkster, Michigan; three sister-in-laws, Idell Henderson of Houston, Texas, Ruth Henderson of Detroit, Michigan and Thelma Henderson of Roxbury, Massachusetts; 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, many nephews, nieces,cousins and friends. Homegoing Services for Sis. McDaniel will be held on Monday, February 19, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at Free Union A.M.E. with the Rev. Angela Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in the Arlington Cemetery, El Dorado, Arkansas. Vistation at the funeral home will be Sunday, February 18, 2007 from 1:00-5:00 p.m.
