Melvin Elmore, 59, of El Dorado passed on December 29, 2017. He was born August 18, 1958 to Newt and Fannie Elmore. At an early age he was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Lillie, Louisiana. Melvin was a graduate of Junction City High School. He received a four year scholarship to Grambling State University where he played college football. He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks and later Melvin joined the U.S. Navy in 1980 where he was active duty for fifteen years. He is survived by: his former wife, Dorothy Elmore of Atlanta, GA; brother, Dexter Elmore of Grambling, LA; daughters, Yolanda Garrett of Hinesville, GA, Ramona Tubbs of Atlanta, GA, and Tamara Elmore of Decatur, GA; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Public visitation will be Friday, January 5, 2018 from 1:00-4:30 pm at Sims Mortuary. Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Sims Mortuary.
