Nellie N. Jackson

December 28, 1916 — November 20, 2016

Nellie Nunley Jackson was born December 28, 1916, to Allen and LuCinda Daniel Nunley in the Mt. Willie Community of El Dorado, Arkansas, a small yet friendly community made up of mostly “kin folk”; where everybody knew everybody. She accepted Christ at a young age. As a young lady she moved to Little Rock where she worked as a silk finisher for Majestic Cleaners. She moved back to El Dorado and united with Douglas Chapel Baptist Church. At the time of her home going she was the oldest member of the church. Those she touched and those who knew her witnessed her untiring love for God. She was a believer in “treating others, as you would have them to treat you”. Nellie was smart and possessed a strong work ethic. She possessed an infectious smile that would chase the chill from any room. She lived life to the fullest, and there was never a dull moment when she was around. She was a member of the Lily of Valley Chapter No. 20 of the Oziell Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Having been one of the oldest members of her family, her home was a treasure chest full of old photos, family heirlooms, “what nots”, but most of all it was the place to learn of the family history. To know her was to love her. On Sunday, November 20, 2016, at the blessed age of 99, she passed into the Lord’s embrace with her daughter by her side. Those waiting to meet her in the presence of the Lord are her parents; her beloved husband, Bishop Jackson and two siblings, Leola Davis and Mondell Aldridge. She leaves an abundance of love and memories with her daughter, Alma L. McHenry of El Dorado, AR; a sister, Viola Palmer of El Dorado, AR; six brothers, George W. Nunley, Henry Nunley and Allen Nunley all of El Dorado, AR; Johnny B. Nunley of Little Rock, AR, Booker T. Nunley of Kansas City, MO, and Franklin Nunley of California. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives, the Douglas Chapel Baptist Church family and countless friends. Public visitation will be Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Sims Mortuary. Mrs. Jackson will lie in state at 10:00 a.m. one hour prior to service time at the church. A Celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Douglas Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. D. L. Hegler, officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
