"The Lord is my Shepherd"...Psalms 23 Ruth Norfleet Russey(known for that warm smile and cute dimples)was born inEl Dorado, Arkansas on January 7, 1933. Her parents were Henry and Hattie Norfleet, she was the third child born to this union. Her parents, her husband, Elmer James Russey and siblings, Gus Smith and Louise Andrews preceded in her death. Ruth joined First Baptist church at an early age. She was an active member and one of the Mothers of the First Baptist Church until her health began to fail and her son moved her to Dallas, Texas with him so that he could care for her. She transitioned on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Vintage Nursing Home in Denton, Texas Ruth was married to Elmer James Russey in 1955 until his death in 1971. To that union was born the love of her life(their only son) David. Mr. Russey was in the Arm Forces, therefore the family lived in Fort Hood, Texas and Denver, Colorado. She was employed at the Warner Brown Hospital for many years and retired from Union Medical Center of El Dorado after 40 years of service. She received numerous awards from the Hospital Administration for her hard work and dedicaton. One of things that Mother Ruth Russey loved to do was to cook for her family or anyone that came to her home. She would tell people "My sister Louise taught me how to cook" she was the master of the Carmael Cake and Sweet Potato Pies, not to mention greens! She is survived by her devoted son, David Russey of Dallas, Texas; a daughter in law, Colette Wallace; grandchildren, Malachi D. Russey, Caleb Rigsby and Sabrina Lyons; her extended grandchildren(that looked after her) Kesha Lee Johnson and Yolanda Bennett; one niece Patricia Andrews Williams and husband Pastor Michael S. Williams of San Francisco, California; one great niece Julia Smith Malone of El Dorado, Arkansas and her husband Charles; one great nephew Timothy F. Albert of Houston, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends. Homegoing Services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church-Cordell, El Dorado, Arkansas with Rev. Pierce Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Lott Burgy Cemetery, El Dorado, Arkansas under the direction of the Sims Mortuary Staff. Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Wednesday, July 8, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
