Levi Gordon Davis was born on May 22, 1929 in Clacks, MS the son of John Leon and Leta Bell Sumner Davis. He professed his hope in Christ at an early age at St. Steven Missionary Baptist Church in Julius, AR under the pastorate of his father, Rev. John L. Davis. He received his early education in the Arkansas Public School System and he finished High School and he finished high school in Woodstock, TN. He attended college at AM&N (UAPB) in Pine Bluff, AR where he met and married his wife, Viola Washington Davis. To this union was born two children, David Levi Davis and Gwendolyn Priscilla Davis. He worked in the Arkansas School System as a teacher and administrator for several years before moving to Flint,MI where he obtained a Masters Degree in Science and he also worked in the school system. He professed his call into the Ministry as a young man. His first sermon was preached at St. James MBC in Earle, AR under the leadershipof his father Rev. John L. Davis. His quest for theological knowledge had begun. He continued to learn and grow in the ministry as he continued his theological education and eventually, in recognition of his dedication and work throughout the State, he received an Honorary Doctorate degree from the United Theological Seminary and Bible College.Throughout his life, he pastured several churches in Arkansas and Flint, Michigan. At the time of his death, he was the pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in El Dorado, AR. He made the transition from his earthly form to his heavenly form on Sunday, November 16, 2014. He was preceded indeath by his parents, John Leon and Leta Bell Sumner Davis and three brothers, David Leon Davis, Douglas Edward Davis Joseph Bryant Davis and his sister Estella Ruth Davis Taylor. He leaves to mourn his loss; his wife Viola Davis of El Dorado, AR, his son David Levi Davis(Linda) and a daughter,Gwendolyn Davis, his grandchildren, Brandon Davis, Ryan Davis(Kim), Joseph Davis, Kendrick Williams and Alicia Hardy.His great-grandchildren, Delaney and Sara Davis and Joseph Davis, Jr., Jada and Justin Hardy, and Lania and Kendrick Williams, Jr.;three brothers, James W. Davis, Tommy L. Davis and John H. Davis; four sisters Delois V. Johnson, Georgia L. Davis-Jones, Joyce J. Carmouche and Leta B. Davis; one sister-in-law Lois F. Davis; two brother-in-laws, Luke J. Taylor and Vanette W. Johnson.He also leaves behind 26 nephews and neices; and a host of other relatives friends, the members of his congregation andhis colleagues. Homegoing Services for Dr. Levi Gordon Davis will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at New Olive BranchBaptist Church, 1548 North Roselawn, El Dorado, AR 71730 with Rev. Eugene Farley officiating.Interment will follow on Saturday,November 22, 2014 at St. Luke Cemetery, Earle, AR.
