Lamos Sturgis

October 11, 1925 — August 25, 2008

"To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven..." Brother Lamos Sturgis was born October 11, 1925 to Jim and Effie Byrd Sturgis. Lamos was called home on August 25 2008 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas, El Dorado, Arkansas. He was devoted and caring for his family and friends. He was a friend to all who knew him and a loving father and grandfather. We know that he is satisfied now and that he is reaping his great reward reserved for the faithful. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was a faithful member at First Baptist Church Cordell where he served in the male chorus until his health failed him. He worked at Old Union and the El Dorado School District. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. On Tuesday, February 15, 1949 at 8:00 p.m. he united in Holy Matrimony to Julia Lee Moore. To this union seven children were born. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Julia Lee Moore Sturgis, a son, Julian Lamar Sturgis, a daughter Wanda Lee Watson Carey, four brother and two sisters. He leaves to cherish his loving memories; one son, Lamos Wayne Sturgis of Los Angeles, California; four daughters, Marilyn Cameron(David), Deborah Newton, Shelia Porchia(Emanuel) and Melissa(Demetris) Gray all of El Dorado, Arkansas; a nephew Frank James Sturgis, two sister-in-laws, Jessie B. Bowie and Mary B. Christopher of El Dorado, Arkansas; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; a host of nephews,neices other relatives and friends. A homegoing celebration for Bro. Sturgis will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 11:00a.m. at First Baptist Church-Cordell, El Dorado, Arkansas with Dr. Robert A. Anderson officiating. Intement will follow in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Norphlet, Arkansas under the direction of the Sims Mortuary Staff. The family will receive friends at 410 West Grove, El Dorado, Arkansas.
