"The Lord is my Shepherd" John Edmond Sims' earth day was March 26, 1928 to the late Mack Henry Sims and Martha Ann Charles Sims in the Lockhart Community near Spearsville, Louisiana. He was affectionately known as "Johnnie" and "Fess". On Thursday, July 24, 2008 his destiny was brought into fruition. At an early age he united with the Mount Zion Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Rev. C.L. Hodge. Later he moved to Junction City and untied with Mount Willie Baptist Church and served in various positions and later, he united with First Baptist Church-Cordell and remained a member until his death. He served in many capacities, such as Deacon, Supt. of Sunday School, Layman Department, Director-General, Ouachita District Congress of Christian Education and wherever he saw a need. He attended the public schools of Union Parish and upon graduation, he attended and graduated from Grambling State University with a B.S. Degree in Education. From 1952-1954 he served in the US Army, spending one and half years overseas in the Korean Conflict. When he was honorably discharged from the US Army, he was employed as a Teacher-Coach and bus driver for the Junction City School District at Rosenwald High School. In 1960, he received his Master of Education Degree from University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR. In 1970, he was movd from Rosenwald High School to Junction City Junior High and taught mathematics. After forty years, in 1993 he retired and was elected to the Junciton City School Board, where he served for eight years. On February 4, 1956 in Minden, Louisiana he united in Holy Matrimony to Willie Mae Dawson. They shared a beautiful life for fifty-two years. They were blessed with one son and two daughters that made the union complete. He was very active in the Masonic Organizzation in the State of Louisiana. He held positions in the Most Worshipful Universal Grand Lodge, AF & AM as the Most Worshipful Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master. In the United Supreme Council as Lieutenant Soverign Grand Commander and held many other positions in the organization. He served as a Scout Master of Troop #104 of Junction City, Boy Scout of America and Served on the Board of directors of Camp DeSoto Boy Scouts Area and Troop #25 Adult Committee Chairman. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He was preceded in death by his parents, his paternal grandparents, Henry Bailey and Rosa Cullen Sims and his maternal grandparents, James Allen and Sophronia Clark Charles. His loving memories will be cherished by his wife, Willie Mae Sims of Junction City, Arkansas; one son, Ronnie E. Sims of Junction City, Arkansas; two daughters, Mary D. Sims(Danny Thomas) Stafford of Ringgold, Louisiana, Wanda J. Sims-Cook of Junction City, Arkansas; two brothers, Calvin Henry Sims and Rev. Robert Lee(Dorothy)Sims of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; three sisters, Classie Sims(Charles)Melton of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Maxie Sims and Barbara J. Charles(Walter)Hammond of Rockford, Illinois; a sister-in-law-, Hester L. Sims of East Orange, New Jersey, seven grandchildren, Roshunda, Sylvia, Christina, Karrina, Jonathan, Justin and Joshua, two great grandsons, Ricardo and Christopher; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Homegoing Ceremony for Mr. Sims will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church-Cordell, El Dorado, Arkansas with the Rev. E. Edward Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Norphlet, Arkansas. Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Friday, August 1, 2008 from 9am-4pm and Saturday, August, 2 from 8:30-10:30am. A family hour will be held at First Baptist Church-Cordell on Friday, from 6pm until. The family will receive friends at 414 North Pine Street, Junction City, Arkansas.
