"The Lord is my Sheperd, I shall not want....Psalms 23 Sister Ruby Thurman was born on September 20, 1917 in Ruston, Louisiana, the daughter of Mann and Emiline Brown Flunder. Ruby departed this life on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at North Louisiana Hospital, Ruston, Louisiana. Ruby united with the Mt.Zion C.M.E. at an early age. In later years she joined Greater Lee Chapel A.M.E. in El Dorado, Arkansas where she was faithful until her health failed. She united in Holy Matrimony to Lurie B. Thurman and to this union three children were born. Her parents, her husband and one sister, Daisy Toombs precede her in death. She leaves to cherish her loving memories; three sons, Robert Thurman and his wife Elogene of Wichita Falls, Texas, R.M. Thurman and his wife Loretta of Marrietta, Georgia and Charles Thurman and his wife Ruby of El Dorado, Arkansas; fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; a host of relatives, cousins and extended family and friends. A homegoing celebration of Sis. Thurman will be held on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Lee Chapel A.M.E. in El Dorado, Arkansas with the Rev. Aluster Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in the Gum Springs Cemetery, Farmerville, Louisiana under the direction of the Sims Mortuary Staff. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home on Sunday, February 17, 2008 from 3-5 p.m. and Monday, February 18, from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
