Alene G Mitchell

February 8, 1909 — December 5, 2007

On December 5th, 2007, God dispatched an angel to bring his servant, Sister Alene Phifer Mitchell home. Sister Mitchell was born February 8, 1909 to Alex and Ella Ward Phifer in Strong, Arkansas in the Ward Chapel Community. Sister Mitchell was married to Mr. Willie Mitchell and to this union one son was born and she named him Venson. Sister Mitchell's parents, her husband, her son, four brothers, Grover, Gordon, Garland and Burton Phifer, three sisters, Etta, Julia and Media Phifer all preceded her in death. Sister Mitchell gave her life to Christ at an early age in Strong, Arkansas. After moving to Crossett, she attended Beauty School in 1941 where she earned a degree in Cosmetology. She then united with what was then named Allison Chapel Church. The church was renamed Allen Temple C.M.E. Church. She was a member of the Missionary Society, Church Treasurer and Secretary until her health began to fail. She was the eighth child of nine. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, a grandson, Lawrence Mithcell and his wife Felecia. Three great grandchildren, Anna, Lawrence, Jr. and Marvin, one great-great grandchild, Jamil; one sister, Adele Freeman, one nephew, Purcell Freeman, II and two special nieces, Evelyn Phifer O'Guinn and Rosemary Daniel. Her very best firend,l Mamie Radford and her caregiver, Tameka Grays. She also leaves eight nephews, seven nieces, thirty-eight great nieces, nephews, her Allen Temple Family and a host of other friends and family. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, Crossett, AR with Rev. Ruby Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery under the direction of the Sims Mortuary Staff. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday, December 12, 2007 from 9:00am-5:00pm.
