"For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous" I Peter 3:12 Mary Semerian "Toot or Mama Toot Delphin was born on November 22, 1913 in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. She was the second of five children born to the union of Willie Rachal and Louisiana Severian. Semerian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, six siblings, Magda, Ceola, Willie, Hearve, Dorsey and Thelma; her son, Raymond and grandson, Farrell, Jr. Semerian, affectionately known by all as Toot or Mama Toot, was a devoted Christian throughout her life. She was baptized at St. Augustine's Church in Isle Brevelle, Louisiana. She was a founding member of the Holy Martyrs' of Uganda Catholic Church in El Dorado, Arkansas, which was later merged into Holy Redeemer Parish. Semerian remained a faithful member of Holy Redeemer until her death. Always a firm believer in the biblical injuncion: to those to whom much has been given, much is expected, she was driven to help the less fortunate. On December 25, 1940, Semerian was united in holy matrimony to her childhood sweetheart. Walter Francis Delphin(Buck). Toot and Buck were truly equal partners in life, in love and in business. During World War II they moved to Leesville, Louisiana to found the first of many businesses that they would own and operate together. After the war they relocated to El Dorado where several business ventures lead to ownership of Buck's Liquor Store. After Buck's death Mama Toot operated the business until her retirement Mama Toot will be rememered by those whose lives she touched for many reasons; to friends, she was the life of the party, to travelers, she was the source of the famous Goodie Bag; to neighbors, she was the cook of Sunday's fried chicken dinner, to the Cane River Community, she was one of its proudest members; to family, she was a pillar of support; and to her children, she was the embodiment of love. Semerian leaves to cherish her loving memories; her children, Richard Delphin(Adelle), Walter Delphin( Ann) and Wilfred Delphin(Edwin); one daughter, Mary Christophe(Farrell); her grandchildren, Vincent(Chanda), Angie(Michael), Nicholas(Juanita) and Semerian(Esaul); her great grandchildren, Richard, Oran, Cecil, Lameria, Isiah and Nehato. A celebration of Mrs. Delphin's life will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2007 with visitation from 3:00-5:00pm and Rosary at 5:00pm at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, El Dorado, Arkansas with Father Gregory Pilcher officiating and Monday, December 10, 2007 with visitation from 9:00-10:45am and Mass at 11:00am at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Cane River, Louisiana with Father Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Augustine Masoleum under the direction of the Sims Mortuary Staff. The family will be at the home of Richard Delphin, 2125 Gale Place, El Dorado, Arkansas.
