"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want...Psalms 23 Larry,as he was known to all who knew him, began his journey April 26, 1949 in Harrell, Arkansas. He was born to the prould parents of Mr. Dennis Lee who preceded him in death and Mrs. Catherine Jones Sumler. Also preceding him in death was his older sister Yvonne, sister Annie Jean and his grandparents, a number of aunts, uncles and a host of other relatives who have been waiting to welcome him home. At an early age Larry accepted Christ and was baptized into the house of the Lord. His first church home was Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. He relocated from Arkansas to Chicago, Illinois as a child, where he resided until he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 2004 to live with this brother Harold and his family. Larry graduated from Richard T. Crane High School in Chicago, Illinois with an interest in art and architecture. He had an eye for beauty and loved music. Larry worked in electronics and prior to becoming disabled he was a truck driver. Throughout his life he showed a true love for life and was known to be a friend to a multitude of people. During the last several years of his life he faced many challenges due to the two strokes he suffered. The last of which left him invalid in the eyes of man, but God evidently had a plan for him as he continued to touch the hearts of many who cared for him at Community Nursing Home in Indianapolis, Indiana where he resided until he was caresssed in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 8, 2011 and carried home. Larry was united in holy matrimony to Debra Russell. To that union three children were born; Stephanie, Erica and Larry. He also had three older children; Sharon, Cherise, Larry and Kevin. He leaves to cherish him memory; his loving mother, Catherine Dickerson of Hampton, Arkansas; his wife, Debra, six children, Larry , Kevin, Larry(Punko), Sharon Cherise, Erica and Stephanie all of Chicago, Illinois; two brothers, Harold Dickerson(Joanne) of Indianapolis, Indiana, David Dickerson of Hampton, Arkansas; three sisters, Ruthie Powell(Lee) of Aurora, Illinois, Carolyn Greenwood(Kenny) of Hampton, Arkansas and Mae Ree Sumler of Milwaukee; ten grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. A Homegoing Celebration for Larry will be held on Saturday,January 15, 2011 at 10:30a.m. at Edington Church of God in Christ, Hampton, Arkansas with Elder Connell Muse officiating. Interment will follow in the Ricks Cemetery, Harrell, Arkansas under the direction of the Sims Mortuary Staff. No Visitation at the funeral home.
